A good dental hygiene regime is a team effort. As well as regular visits to the hygienist, there are simple steps you can take at home to keep your teeth and gums healthy in between appointments.

At 61 Dental we offer a highly advanced hygienist service. Our hygienists and therapists provide the highest standard of care to all our patients.

Routine hygienist appointments are included as part of our Dental Care Plan and most patients, on average, will visit the hygienist every six months – or more frequently if they require this.

Our Team are highly experienced in spotting and treating the early signs of gum disease. Most people will suffer from gum disease at some time in their life, with early symptoms including tender, swollen gums and blood on the toothbrush when you brush your teeth. This form of gum disease is called gingivitis and if you spot any of the early warning signs you should book a hygienist appointment. Left untreated, gingivitis can become the more serious form of gum disease, periodontitis; this can ultimately lead to tooth loss.

When you visit the practice, our team will give your teeth a thorough scale and polish to remove any plaque and tartar that may have built up. After professionally cleaning your teeth they will give you a detailed oral healthcare plan to follow at home, including a detailed, bespoke set of instructions on oral hygiene methods to help you control the bacterial plaque that builds up on your teeth. This may include such things as brushing technique and use of inter-dental brushes to clean between the teeth, and may also include tips of following a healthy diet and minimising any other factors that could have a negative effect on your dental health.

If you have any concerns about the health of your gums, talk to Lisa or Clare.
