Improve your bite and your smile with braces

Many of us have teeth that are crowded or crooked. Having teeth straightened or moved into a better position with braces in Stockport is easy at 61 Dental. This can improve their appearance and the way the teeth bite together, while also making them easier to clean.

Why choose braces?

stockport-bracesBraces are a great solution for anyone wanting to improve their look or overall dental health.

An incorrect bite can lead to tooth damage, strain on the jaw muscles, joint problems and sometimes even headaches. Such problems are best corrected in childhood, but more and more adults are opting for braces in Stockport, and there are several types to choose from.

The different types of braces in Stockport

A fixed brace has brackets and bands which are temporarily stuck to the teeth. A flexible wire joins all the brackets, allowing the teeth to be moved. You can’t take the appliance out yourself; however our dentists can do that for you. Fixed braces can be made of metal, plastic or ceramic.

Removable braces are used for simple treatments. A removable brace has delicate wires and springs attached, which move the teeth using gentle pressure. It can be taken out and cleaned.

‘Invisible braces’ or aligners are a series of specially made, slightly different, clear plastic moulds that fit over the teeth. Each mould is worn for two weeks before being replaced with the next one. They can be easily removed for eating, drinking and cleaning.

How long does treatment take?

This depends on how severe the problem is, and can be anything from a few months to two-and-a-half years. Most people can be treated in one to two years. When treatment is finished the teeth need to be held in position for a time using appliances called retainers, which hold the teeth in position while the surrounding gum and bone settles. The retainers can be removable or fixed, depending on the original problem.

At 61 Dental in Stockport, braces are of the highest quality, and we do our utmost to ensure that your treatment with us is as pleasant as is possible.
